Christmas in full bloom

It goes without saying that Filipinos are suckers for Christmas. As the clock strikes 12 on the night of Aug. 31 (or even hours before that), Christmas carols begin to hog the airwaves while DJs playfully remind us that the “ber” months are here, “Merry Christmas!” But as much as we like to boast that the Yuletide season in this part of the globe is practically a five-month affair (from Sept. 1 to Jan. 6—Feast of the Three Kings), it’s not officially Christmas until the Christmas trees are up and lighted in our homes as well as hotels and prime establishments around the country to usher in the happiest, most cherished, and most meaning season of all.
